Accordian Card Details

I have to admit this card was pure trial and error as I tried to make an accordian style card that ended up being an A2 size card but....still allowed me enough room on the base inside panel to use a fairly large image. I can't tell you all the videos I watched on how to make accordian style cards as there were many so I'm not sure who to give credit to as this ended up being a mish mash of different ones I liked. Here is what I ended up doing....I took a 12x12 piece of cs and cut it to 5 1/2 x 12 and a smaller piece at 3 1/2 x 5 1/2. I scored the largest piece so that I had a 4 1/4 section, two 3 inch sections and then a 1 3/4 section. This was done by just moving it around on my score pal but if you have a scoring blade on your cutter then it would be easy. I then scored my smaller piece along the 3 1/2 inch side right in 1/2 at the 1 3/4 inch mark. Once I folded my score lines then I attached the smaller piece of cs to the back of the larger piece so that the 1 3/4 section overlapped. I added my lace border so that the seam wouldn't be noticed on the front side. Here is a picture attempting to explain further:

Once you have your base put together then decorate as you like and you will end up with a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 A2 size card. Here is a picture of the card folded and if you go here you will see my original post showing it open.

I hope this helps and next time I make one I'll try to get pictures as I go along. I like this style as you can see a peek of each layer and....wouldn't it be cute with a belly band to hold it closed?!

Papertake Weekly Sketch Challenge

This is my take on the Papertake Weekly Sketch Challenge this week. I used Angela's Sew Many Cards Santa and some Basic Grey patterned papers. The picture doesn't show very well but there is lots of white fun flock on Santa and then I cut out his moustache and layered it up so it added some dimension. My sentiment is from this years Hero Arts Christmas set. Hope you are all done with your Christmas shopping and are getting ready to sit back and enjoy the holidays!

Sew Many Cards "Red" Challenge

This week's challenge at Sew Many Cards is to make a project using only red (you can use any colors in your image). I love red so this was easy for me. I chose Hershey wearing a Santa hat with antlers. I used some liguid applique to make his "furry" parts of his hat and colored the rest with copics (love those things). I have some cute ribbon with Santa's little helper printed on it but it seemed a little too much and it was too hard to get the words where I wanted them as there was quite a space between the images so....I just made a ribbon tag and pop dotted it on another ribbon. I was going for that "wavy" ribbon look that everyone seems to be able to do with paper but I didn't quite get it. It is still pretty cute IRL though. Follow me and check out the rest of the design team's projects....that's where I'm headed!

Sew Many Cards New Release & Pink Elephant Challenge #2!

Isn't Hershey just adorable???? I love working with this little dog. What a fun Christmas card this will make for an animal lover! This was so easy to make....just a square of patterned paper and my image and background scallop cut with nesties. I added a few brads and some ribbon along with a sentiment stamp from Hero Arts and there you go. This really would be an easy one to mass produce. You could print out several copies of your image and take them with you - color while you are waiting for the kids or the dentist or watching TV, etc. Now, I'm going blog hopping as I can't wait to see what the rest of the design team made! Be sure to stop over at the Sew Many Cards blog or the ning site for a list of the DT blogs! Also, Angela has some fabulous blog candy over at the SMC blog here!
Don't forget you have 3 chances to win my BLOG CANDY! You can leave a comment here and/or on the blog candy post here and/or the sneak peek post here by December 9th. I will have one of my boys draw a name out of a hat and I'll announce the winner on Dec. 10th. Good Luck!!
I'm also submitting this in the Pink Elephant Blog Challenge this week (make a project using your favorite Christmas color combo).

Sew Many Cards Winter Challenge & Pink Elephant Challenge!

This week's challenge over at Sew Many Cards is to make a winter themed project. I've never made a shaker card before so.....I decided this little penguin (PJ) would be the perfect image to go with a shaker card. I just purchased some new craft scissors that came in that heavy plastic packaging so I cut a circle out of that with my nesties and then adhered that to my scalloped "ring". I made my ring by using the scalloped circle nestie with a smaller plain circle nestie inside of it and cut them both at the same time so that I ended up with a frame(clear as mud?). Next time I'll try to remember to take some pictures as I go or if I can talk my son in to it I'll get him to help me video it. It's really easy but if you are like me - visuals help! Anywho....then I took foam tape and adhered it all around my scalloped circle so that it would stand up away from my image enough for the glitter to move nicely. I removed the backing from the foam tape everywhere except a little section at the top and adhered it to my patterned paper with the image already in place. I then used that little opening at the top to add my glitter and then I removed the backing from that and adhered it so that the glitter could not escape. I promise you it is much easier than it sounds and what a neat effect! I'm also submitting this for the Pink Elephant Challenge this week of making a project using your favorite Christmas combo! I do love all the traditional red/greens, burgundy/golds, blue/silvers---actually, I love them all!

Logan Won!!!!

We are so proud of Logan!!!! The recreation center here on base had an essay contest and they picked a winner from 3 different age groups and all 3 were recognized Friday night at a special tower lighting ceremony. Logan won for his age group! He got to go up on stage and get an up close view of the Freedom Tower lights coming on!

Can you believe it? Home Decor Project!!!

I never really do any kind of altered projects or anything....I'm primarily a cardmaker scrapbooker but....when I saw this on Christmas with the Cricut I just had to try it. Mandy over at Polka Dot Spot came up with this beautiful project and I just had to see if I could do it, too. Be sure to go check hers out here and scroll down because she has another one that is also gorgeous!!! It is very time consuming but....it is so CUTE IRL and so unique. Mandy used a styrofoam cone but our Walmart only had the green floral cones so I used that...will definitely try harder to find the styrofoam next time because I had that green stuff all over me! I used my cricut and winter woodland cartridge to cut out lots and lots of snowflakes in 2 different sizes and then.....used the corsage type pins to attach them to the cone. Put a bow on top and tada!!! If you have a cricut (even if you don't) and haven't seen the Christmas with the Cricut blog.....you really need to grab a cup of coffee and sit back and just stroll threw that site as there are so many ideas of things to make with your cricut that you will never have thought of!! Some of them are easy enough for even me to do! These ladies ROCK!!!

Sew Many Cards & Cutting Cafe Challenge!!

This week Regina from The Cutting Cafe has graciously sponsored Sew Many Cards and I have to say I love working with her designs!!! I thought her ornaments (green ones on either side) worked so well with Jaden and her Christmas ornament. I love that reindeer circular sentiment of Regina's, too! You won't believe how many images you get in each of her sets!!!

I had so much fun working with Regina's images this week that I made a second card. For this one, I chose Angela's carolers and used Regina's fa la la la and Christmas sentiments which went perfectly with this image. This is my first easel card and I have to admit it really was easy and yet such a neat card! If you haven't been over to The Cutting Cafe it is so worth hopping on over! She not only has AWESOME images but she and her design team are WONDERFUL - you will be so inspired!!! Not only does she have The Cutting Cafe but be sure to check out her other blogs also. Be sure to check out her Bingo cards - I plan on using it in the very near future - CUTE! CUTE! CUTE!!!
Our challenge this week was to use images from both companies on a Christmas project. Although is not required, we hope you will do the same. Can't wait to see your projects! You can link them here:

Sew Many Cards Freebie Friday!

I just can't get over Angela's Friday Freebies - they are soooo adorable and they are FREE!!! There has been a slight change and the images are now being sent out to you via email so be sure if you haven't already to go over and sign up for the newsletter so you won't miss out on any of these images. It just so happened that Angela's polar bear almost matches the new Imaginesce holiday papers that just came out so I had to use this paper. I used my copics to color his scarf as close as I could to the one on the patterned paper and then a little here and there to shade him in. I "doodled" the swirls as close as I could to the paper and then added some snowflake brads that I've had for quite a while and all done! Hope you have a great weekend! If you happen to stop by, please leave me a comment as I love to hear from you.

Practical Scrappers Acrylic Paint Challenge

This weeks challenge over at Practical Scrappers is to use acrylic paint on your project. I've been itching to play with my sticky canvas so....I decided to use a big square of it for a background. I just painted it red and frayed the edges a little and you can't really see the texture in the photo but...IRL it looks really neat! I used some Coordinations cardstock for my base layer and it doesn't show up very good in the photo because I only have a white backdrop for my photo - going to have to pick up some black but....it does have the more vintage distressed look and then I felt it needed something so my son, Logan, said it would be really cool to have some "snow" around the edges. I decided on some white lace because I wanted more texture than fun flock which is the only other thing I had on hand. My first choice would have been some gathered red gingham but...couldn't find any. Hope you will come on over to Practical Scrappers and check some of the awesome LO the design team did and I'm sure that the projects that will be showing as the week progresses will be awesome, too!

The Greeting Farm Challenge

This sweet little witch is the image I chose to work with for the 2nd part of The Greeting Farm Where the Wild Things Are challenge. The challenge this week is to work with this sketch by Cindy Haffner (love her work!) and to use a digi image or a stamp by Marina Neira. The winner gets to be the guest designer next month!!! Now I know Halloween is past and we are all looking forward to Thanksgiving but....this little witch is too cute and I still have some of my awesome Basic Grey Eerie papers so......now I'm ahead for next year!! I colored "Penny Witch" with my copics and used my nesties to cut out some circles and then added some bling and it was just that easy. These images are sooooo..... fun to work with as Marina has worked in the shading in the image so it is wonderful for someone like me who can never decide where exactly I want to add my shading. She has already worked it all out and all I have to do is add my touches!

Hubby comes home this weekend so I hope to get some projects finished.

Happy Veteran's Day!!

Can you believe this image is a freebie? Well, it is! Head on over to Sew Many Cards to get your copy! I think this image is just amazing and I don't feel I did it justice but I really wanted to play with it and I didn't have alot of time. It was quite emotional actually working on this image, the house is all quiet and then I hear Taps playing outside as it does every night at 10:00 pm but it just really made me stop and think tonight especially with what just happened at Ft. Hood. We are lucky in that my hubby isn't in a career field that gets called up and deployed as some units do but we definitely have friends who are separated quite often for long periods of time. Be sure to thank all of those in uniform and their families because it is not an easy job being the one left behind either.

Sew Many Cards Bow Challenge

This week's challenge over at Sew Many Cards is to make a Christmas project using a bow(s) - any kind of bow. This was a fun easy one for me as I love to put bows on my projects. I adore Morty so I chose this image of him and that whole peppermint theme took on a mind of its own. I had this paper from the Jolly by Golly line from Cosmo Cricket and I had some red/white striped ribbon that I picked up at Ben Franklin so I inked it up to age it a little and this is what I ended up with. Hope you like it and I hope you will join in on the challenge this week! Pssst......be sure and check back tomorrow as you won't believe the special release Angela made that will be unveiled tomorrow in honor of Veteran's Day!

No More Trick or Treating!

Basic Grey papers are AWESOME! I love this year's Eerie line - they are so cute and even someone like me who has trouble putting patterns together can work with these easily. Again, I used a scrapsketch sketch - there are so many wonderful sketches over there to get you started and I love them so much that I pretty much follow them to a "t". Aren't those little spiders cute? I cut them with my cricut and just gave them some jewels for eyes as I didn't have any googly ones small enough and took my white marker to them and there you go! And yes, my boy actually wanted that bright neon pink for his cast which please pray for us that it does come off this week! I don't know how in the world he got to be a teen so fast but this year he had no interest in dressing up, however, he did enjoy taking his baby sister out and he had no lack of candy either. It's fun to see my boys getting to enjoy the things they feel they've outgrown through their little sister. I can't wait to see them showing her all about Christmas!

A "Fairy Halloween"

I just love sketches now! I got this one from scrapsketch and if you want to go check it out it is guest designer sketch #14 by Amy Chomas. You will see tons of FABULOUS sketches over there! I've got so many that I want to play with still! Having a sketch makes putting your page or card together soooo much faster. I probably would have never come up with this on my own but having the sketch, I just plugged in my photos, paper and embellishments and tada!!! Putting all these different patterns together is so out of the box for me as I'm a very simple scrapbooker but Rachel's cute little fairy costume just screamed for the pinks and lavenders but since they are pictures of trick or treating I had to throw some Halloween stuff in there to so....this is what I ended up with and I think it turned out pretty cute. I played with my MS glitter for the first time on the flowers and WOW I do like it - I want to find the snow glitter I've read about next!

Where the Wild Things Are

This past Friday and again next Friday The Greeting Farm is holding special challenges as they are looking for a guest designer. They are featuring the wonderful Marina Neira's designs and I picked this awesome digi image called Candy Cane Snack. You can read more about it here. Since the theme is where the wild things are I tried to keep it a little more woodsy but....just couldn't stay away from the Christmas"y" side of things with that cute candy cane. I colored the image with my copics and then sponged some Momento Desert Sand to give it a more rustic feel and then sponged up some Holiday Wrappings Ribbon I had picked up at the local Ben Franklin to make it coordinate with the pattern paper which is from the Jolly by Golly line by Cosmo Cricket. I used my glossy accents on his eyes and the "candy cane drool" hence the reflection you see in the photo. I'll try to get some better pictures when it's daylight. This image was wonderful to work with because the shading areas are already started for you. Hope you like it!

ScrapSketch Card Sketch

I've been wanting to make something with this little cutie from Angela for a while and then I saw this card sketch at scrapsketch and thought it would be perfect. It didn't turn out quite like I had envisioned but it was fun anyway. If you click on the image you can see that she has lots of glitz.....her necklace is SU diamond glitter and the hat brim is pink fun flock and the rest of the hat is covered with shimmerz. Be sure and head over to Sew Many Cards and pick up this cute image and then head over to scrapsketch for some wonderfully motivating LO and card sketches!

This image could be used for so many things! I think I'll do a cute pink castle theme next time I use him as if we are just waiting for the princess to kiss him! If you enlarge the image you can see my stamp on the circle says "pucker up". I used a Mojo Monday sketch for this one but I don't have the number. I love that site - if you haven't been over there it is so.... worth a visit! Having a sketch to go by makes card making so much easier. Enjoy!

Sew Many Card Friday Freebie

Does this bear not make you want to squeeze him? I think this image is absolutely adorable (well all of Angela's images are but.....this one is the friday freebie). I used a sketch from www.scrapsketch.com (cardsketch 5) and I had to alter it a little as I couldn't get a nice large scalloped rectangle the size I wanted. The nice ladies over at the cricut chat message board gave me some info on that but I was too impatient to put my card together and I decided to just go with some scalloped edges. I don't think about pulling kraft out very much but I do like the look of it with these pastel colors. Hope you enjoy and be sure to go over to Sew Many Cards and save your copy of this adorable image!

Sew Many Cards Fall Challenge

This week's challenge over at Sew Many Cards is to make a fall card and to use buttons, brads, or flowers. I am loving these digital images because unlike traditional stamps I can size it to fit whatever size card I want to make. I chose to make a square card this time and I colored my image in with my copics and then used my nesties to layer him up. I also used my new nestie tags to make the sentiment and then placed buttons on either side with a little bling in the center. Hope you enjoy and will come on over and join in on the challenge!

Sew Many Cards - FRIDAY FREEBIE!!! Mojo Monday Sketch!

Isn't this image just ADORABLE? Guess what? You can get it for FREE!!! This is Angela's Friday Freebie over at Sew Many Cards this week. I had so much fun making this card! I started out with this wonderful Mojo Monday Sketch which made putting it together so easy. I used my copic markers to color and then added SU's diamond glitter (love that stuff) to Santa's hat and clothing. I used fun flock for his beard and embossed a new Hero Arts stamp for the snowflake greeting. My red embossing powder didn't work very well - I wonder if it is because it is actually very very old - does it go bad???? Anyone know??? Hope you are gearing up for a wonderful weekend!

Sew Many Cards Color Challenge

Angela's challenge this week is to use pink/green/white on our project (any image and the image can be colored with any colors). I am so drawn to Morty that I just had to pick this cute image. The sweetness of the colors and this sweet little Moose just seem to "fit"! I used a sketch from Mojo Monday that I've been wanting to try as I've not made a long skinny card. I believe it is 91 or 97 if you want to check it out - I shrunk the image somewhat and my ink has faded so I can't read the number very well (couldn't possibly have anything to do with my eyesight). Be sure to stop by Sew Many Cards and play along this week!

Sew Many Cards - Friendship Challenge

Angela challenged us to make a friendship card this week using red and/or yellow and any other colors we wanted and we could choose any image. I picked this cute new Eris with flowers image and I just happened to have this yellow patterned paper with red flourishes so...I just went with it. I love the way it turned out but...it is pretty "loud" for me. Sometimes it is really fun to get away from those favorite color combos we always reach for! Hope you like it! Be sure to join in on the challenge!

Practical Scrappers Decorative Scissors Challenge

Decorative Scissors? Say What? This week's challenge over at Practical Scrappers is to pull out those decorative scissors and use them on a project. Well, I don't know what possessed me to decide to do a background with them like this because I can barely cut a straight line with my nice big 12" paper cutter! After many tries I did finally get a few straight cuts so I could make this background and I think it turned out pretty cute. This image is just one of Angela's new Sewn Together designs over at Sew Many Cards and it just fit perfect! I wish I had used a light green for my little scallops but hindsight is 20-20. I thought this light violet would have a better contrast to my pink than it did but....I didn't have time to turn back as I needed to use this baby card right away. Hope you have an awesome day!

Sew Many Cards - Stairstep Challenge

WOW was this fun to make! I've not really stepped out of the "normal" style card before and I loved making this stairstep card. It was really easy - just some measuring and scoring. You can find a tutorial here. I used the new Morty the Moose from Angela's Sewn Together Stamps. I just don't think he could be any cuter! The trees and gift package were cut using my cricut and my son, Ryan, designed the greeting for me on the computer. Didn't he do a good job? Please stop by his blog (link on my sidebar) and leave him some love. He recently broke his arm and had to have surgery and he is feeling a little blue. He is the one that helped get my blog up and running! He has opened this whole new world for me.

Sew Many Cards Monday New Releases!

Every week I think Angela's new images just couldn't get any better than the previous week and she has done it again! These new images are ADORABLE!!! You've got to go check out her blog and see them all - this is just one of the new releases for this week. I had fun using liquid applique and lots of glitter, although my picture isn't showing it very well. IRL it is quite "blingy"!

Practical Scrappers Diecut Challenge

Practical Scrappers is having a diecut challenge this week and this is my LO using diecuts. It didn't turn out exactly as I had hoped but I love that fancy title from Christmas Noel. I still need to add my journaling but it is almost bedtime so I'll get to that tomorrow (sound familiar?). If you haven't already been over at Practical Scrappers or Sew Many Cards, you should join in as there is a really fabulous challenge blog hop going on this week and there are many wonderful prizes along the way!
